NUJ Pay Day: the union will be holding a major event to discuss the issue of pay in London on Saturday 31 October. Put the date in your diary, more information to follow.

Finance for freelances: accountancy firm HW Fisher & Company is running another of its evening seminars, at the NUJ's London head office, on tax for the self-employed and staff who have recently become freelance on Wednesday 23 September. More information on the NUJ website.  

Ridicule, abuse and trolling: this seminar on how to handle online harassment will take place on Saturday 5 September, in the Connolly Room, Liberty Hall, Dublin 1. List of speakers and how to book your place on the NUJ website.  

No to Austerity, Yes to Workers Rights: TUC march in Manchester on Sunday 4 October, as the Conservative Party holds its annual conference. More information and campaign materials on the events page of the NUJ website. The Federation of Entertainment Unions will be providing transport from London. If you would like a place please email campaigns@nuj.org.uk The anti-trade union legislation will allow agency temp workers to be strike breakers. Send a message to Business Secretary, Sajid Javid, saying British workers value the right to strike.  Sign the petition.

Federation of Entertainment Union's Training autumn social: find out about the free services and courses the FEU provides for NUJ members at a social networking event with buffet and drinks on the evening of Thursday 10 September. Education Journalism Awards: the deadline for the Chartered Institute of Public Relations awards is Friday 4 September. The awards celebrate and promote captivating specialist education journalism from pre-school through to adult education and across local, national and international reporting. Political journalism internship at the House of Commons: the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust is working in partnership with the Parliamentary Press Gallery to offer young people, aged between 18 and 24, from Black or minority ethnic backgrounds an opportunity to gain valuable work experience. This autumn the NUJ offers a programme of courses to enhance your skills and aid your career. Training in Wales: the NUJ offers a programme of subsidised, practical courses in new media and core journalism skills, including how to build a website, how to run a campaign using social media and media law refresher sessions. More details on NUJ Training Wales.
