Tomorrow's BBC: the BBC Trust has launched an online, multiple-choice questionnaire asking for views on the BBC and the services it provides as part of its consultation on charter renewal. There are 19 questions (you don't have answer all of them).  Please fill in the survey  You can find out more on the Trust's website.

Ridicule, abuse and trolling: this seminar for NUJ members will discuss how to handle online harassment. This free event, on Saturday 5 September, will be held at the Dublin Institute of Technology, Aungier Street, Dublin. Book your place and find out about the speakers.

Media Democracy festival and meetups: in the run-up to the Media Coalition for Reform's Media Democracy Festival at Goldsmiths University on Saturday 17 October, there will be a Media Democracy Meetup at the Trew Era Cafe, London, on the first Wednesday of every month. TUC demonstration during Conservative Party conference: assemble at 12.30 on Sunday 4 October on Oxford Road for a rally and entertainment at 13.00, followed by a march through central Manchester to protest against the government’s austerity agenda and attacks on trade unions.

Trade Union bill: the TUC will hold a rally at Westminster Central Hall, Storeys Gate, London SW1H 9NH, on Monday 2 November, and a lobby of Parliament against the government's anti-trade union legislation. Sign the 38Degrees Defend the Right to Strike petition. 


NUJ video commission: the union is commissioning a video to explain to police officers undergoing public order training the importance of adhering to the official guidelines when dealing with news gatherers. It will be shown during training sessions at police training facilities.  The job specification is on the NUJ website.The deadline for applications is midday on Tuesday 1 September and should be made to


Freedom of Information: a major attack on journalists' and the public’s right to information is likely following the government’s review of the FOI Act. Minsters are desperate to water down the act. Please sign the 38Degrees petition. Make a donation, or ask for a contribution from your branch or chapel, to the Campaign for the Freedom of Information.


This autumn the NUJ offers a programme of courses to enhance your skills and aid your career.
