NUJ Active 27 September 2013

Welcome to NUJ Active on Friday 27 September 2013

NUJ elections: Our union is a democratic and campaigning organisation that strives to represent all sectors of the media industry. One way members can get active in the union is by volunteering to be an NUJ representative. At the moment, the NUJ has a range of seats available on councils and committees that form the basis of the NUJ's democratic decision-making structures. We want to reflect the union’s diversity of membership, and more specifically, to persuade women members to take up seats on the NEC and on union councils and committees. Current figures show that for some NUJ councils and committees, less than 20 per cent of people involved are women. There is also under-representation of young and disabled people, as well as those from Black or minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds. All members can volunteer to be candidates and seek nominations for the vacancies available. More details are provided in the NUJ elections area of the union's website. Nominations must be made at a branch meeting and the deadline for all NUJ nominations is 13.00 Monday 25 November 2013. Being an NUJ rep is a valuable and rewarding experience. You will have the chance to make a difference to current and future members and play a part in the union's direction and leadership.

NUJ records: Please check your own NUJ membership records via the website - to make sure the union has the correct and up-to-date contact details for you. Log in and check your records. If you don't have a log in for the new website then email: support@nuj.org.uk

NUJ recruitment: The union needs your help to recruit new members - ask someone you know to join the NUJ today. Most people don't join a trade union because they are not asked to.
