The NUJ has welcomed a decision by the BBC to develop its Radio Foyle output in Derry, rather than scrap it. The change of heart follows a campaign by local NUJ members and leaders of all sections of the community to keep the service going.
NUJ deputy general secretary Michelle Stanistreet said: “We are pleased that BBC management has now listened to its journalists and the local community. Our members look forward to continuing to provide the service which leaders right across the community, and most importantly Radio Foyle’s enthusiastic audience, have shown so clearly that they value.”
BBC bosses now say they plan to 'refresh' the station’s schedule with a new morning breakfast show, an extended lunchtime magazine programme and a new afternoon entertainment show.
