George Viner Memorial Fund
A healthy media will mirror the population it serves. However, journalists from ethnic minorities constitute only approximately eight per cent of those working in the media industry, meaning the media fails to properly reflect society.
The
George Viner Memorial Fund was set up by the NUJ to address this inequity. The fund supports Black and Asian students through the training they need to gain employment. As well as providing course fees, books or travel payments, the Trust provides mentoring, course and careers guidance to try and ensure that as many black and Asian students as possible succeed in their chosen field.
We are able to carry out this valuable work thanks to the continuing support from NUJ members and voluntary donations from those who believe that a multi-cultural society should have a multi-cultural press. If you would like to make a donation, please call 020 7843 3723.
The GVMF is a charitable trust (number 328142) and relies on donations to continue its work.
