Services
NUJ Extra was set up to help members and their dependents through times of financial difficulty.
The charity has nine trustees. NUJ Extra is registered under the Charities Act (in England and Wales) and is regulated by the Charity Commission. NUJ Extra's registration number is 1112489.
Applying for help
Applications for help can be made from NUJ members and, in some cases, former members and dependants of deceased members. Each case is considered on its merits and a decision is made according to guidelines that are reviewed every year. Usually the charity makes one-off grants to meet urgent bills or specific requests and very occasionally makes regular weekly grants. Charitable funds should not be used to replace state benefits or to pay for private medicine.
In the past, the fund has helped provide electric wheelchairs and orthopedic beds, and has topped up the income of pensioners relying on state benefits.
