NUJ Councils - how to get Active

If you want to help steer the NUJ, take collective decisions and get the job done - then get in touch with your branch and volunteer to take part in the union's Councils. The latest seats available have been announced.

There are a range of current vacanies on NUJ Councils and the union is urging members to take part in these NUJ decision-making bodies and share the work of advancing the aims and objectives of the NUJ.

The NUJ is a democratic, campaigning union and strives to represent all sectors of the membership.

We have 34,000 members who work throughout the industry, as freelances, casuals and in staff roles in newspapers, news agencies, magazines, online, book publishing, in public relations and as photographers.

One way members can get more involved in the union is by volunteering to take a seat on a council, if the seat is contested then you will need to stand for election.

You can ask your local NUJ branch for more information and to be nominated.

If you would like to find out more information about the elections - please contact your branch secretary or your local chapel representative.

If you want to check if you have a branch near-by or are interested in trying to get one then please email: campaigns@nuj.org.uk

The elected Council posts run for two years and the list below shows the name of the NUJ Council and the type and number of seats currently available.

We want to encourage members to take part in the union and make sure the union reflects the strength and diversity of our membership.

The nomination needs to reach Headland House in London by the close of business on Monday 27 August 2012.

All the committees run for two years from 2011-13.

The seat listed are the number (if more than one) and types available.
