NUJ warns of damage over cost-cutting programme at Express Newspapers

On Wednesday 28 March Northern & Shell management met for a second time with workplace NUJ representatives.

The union asked for more details from management about who would be at risk and how the titles would function if the cuts were made.

The detail of management plans were disappointingly vague in response to specific questions from staff.

The next chapel meeting is before the end of the week and there are plans for further discussions with management.

Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary said: "We are not surprised by Richard Desmond's greedy cuts for profit strategy. Desmond does not care for media jobs or quality journalism. Our industry needs investment and growth – not media barons like Richard Desmond who use the media to fill their own pockets and take away people's livelihoods."
