Union representatives are the lifeblood of the NUJ. Reps are the people who help make things happen at branch and chapel level. NUJ reps have made the union the strong and effective campaigning organisation it is today.
This section of the NUJ website has been designed especially to help you do this important job. The NUJ reps handbook will bring you the latest on your rights as a rep, how to carry out your role in the workplace, information on the best trade union training
on how to get involved in current NUJ campaigns
. It also offers a host of useful links and sources for more information.
Whether you are a Father or Mother of your chapel, a health and safety officer, a learning rep or an equalities officer, yours is a vital role that can transform yours and your colleagues’ working lives.
Members look to reps for advice and guidance. Whether you are helping negotiating a pay rise, defending a member in a disciplinary, telling a member about our professional training courses or simply giving a bit of advice over a cup of tea – you will be known and respected in your workplace. But you don’t have to do it on your own. The NUJ supports its reps every step of the way. We have full time officials
who can give you all the advice and support you need.
We also offer excellent trade union training
and provide plenty of useful information in print and on this website. See the more info section for more details.
