Magazines

If you work for a magazine publisher the NUJ is the union for you.

Our members are journalists, reporters, editors, copywriters, sub-editors, web editors and graphic designers. You may be starting up your own magazine, working on a small specialist title, or working for one of the giants, like Reed Business Information, Emap or IPC Media.

Our members work in many different areas including editorial, production and marketing. To check if you are eligible to join contact us.

NUJ campaigns in the magazine sector are aimed at improving poor rates of pay, combating excessive overtime, securing proper breaks, tackling redundancies and promoting quality and professionalism. At any one time we may be winning a pay-rise in one workplace, defending an individual against bullying in another or campaigning to protect copyright among our freelances.

We can also help provide you with advice on ethical matters where difficult issues arise or help provide high-quality training opportunities

If you want to get active in a current NUJ campaign click here or for training to become more active in your workplace click here.

If you have a problem at work please contact your Chapel Rep in the first instance or contact the Magazine sector office.

Read the Magazine and Book sector strategy here.

If you work on a magazine and are not yet a member of the NUJ, click here to join

If you are a Rep you can find out more about your role here, access the Reps Handbook online and find out more about the union's structures.
